Sump Pumps

Sump pumps are critical for keeping properties dry. Especially for properties in flat, low lying areas that have a tendency to accumulate a lot of water. By calling a professional waterproofing contractor to install a sump pump, you save yourself the cost of potential water repair or flooding restoration. Additionally, you’re helping to protect your family. After all, mold and mildew growth anywhere on your property can be hazardous. If you don’t have a basement waterproofing system already installed or if you suspect your current sump pump isn’t working, contact Kelley Construction Contractors, Inc. for a quick, quality sump pump installation. How do sump pumps work?

In short, sump pumps work by pumping out water that has collected in the sump pit away from your property. How does water get to the sump pit in the first place? Water generally gets to the sump pit through an interior or exterior drainage system. This system collects all the excess moisture absorbed into the ground.

Sump pumps primarily run by electricity, but many also have a battery backup in case of emergency. A torrential downpour that knocks out your electricity would not be the time to have your sump pump quit working, after all.

Do I need a sump pump repair or replacement?

Most people don’t have a ton of knowledge about the basement waterproofing systems in their properties. As long as there isn’t any visible moisture, you may not think twice about what is actually keeping water outside of your property and away from your foundation. It’s important to know if your property has a sump pump, though, and regularly inspect it to make sure it’s functioning properly. Common signs that your sump pump may need repaired or replaced include the following:

  • Puddling water
  • Open sump pit
  • Under-powered sump pump
  • Clogged pump intake
  • Overflowed basin

A sump pump working inefficiently or not at all will not do you any good when it comes to keeping water out of your basement. By recognizing the signs of a broken or worn out sump pump and calling a basement waterproofing contractor immediately, you may be able to have your sump pump repaired or replaced before any damage occurs. Our contractors can assess your problem and let you know if a simple repair will take care of the issue or if a full sump pump replacement is needed.
